As a continuation to the things i made with the Harry Potter fat quarter i designed and ordered from spoonflower, i present to you… Hermione Granger!
Instead of a softie like Ron, i made her into a wristlet. Big enough to almost fit a Samsung Galaxy Tab3 (the keyword is “almost”), Hermione would make a good lunchtime companion to store your mobile, cash, cards and keys.
In case anyone is interested to make a Hermione wristlet, here’s what i did. It’s probably not the best method coz i’m still learning.
Cut with a 0.5 cm border from the grey line. There’s one part that you’ll be cutting close to Harry…so be careful.
Cut a rectangle about 3.5 cm by 2 cm. Fold into two lengthwise with right sides facing. Sew along the open length. Turn it inside out, fold it, put it through a metal ring (ok… i don’t know what it’s called but you can see it in the above photo) so that it rests at the fold. Place it in between the front and back pieces.
The top of the head will be the opening for the wristlet…depending on the zipper length (mine was 10″). Start at the small red arrow. Use running stitch in the direction of the dashed red arrow. Once you reach the opening, do another set of running stitches to fill in the gaps (in the direction of the dashed yellow arrow).
Make notches at the curved out areas and clips at the red arrows (curved in areas). Where the metal ring is, make notches right next to it (as shown in the yellow circle).
Turn right side out, pushing out the edges with you finger. Trace around the shape on two pieces of felt. Cut the felt to be slightly smaller.
If you wish to have a card slot, cut a rectangle piece of felt about 2.5″ by 3.5″. Sew the rectangle to one of the felt piece. Place the felt pieces together (with the card slot inside) and blanket stitch around, leaving the top open for the zipper.
Whipstitch the zipper to the felt.
Insert to the Hermione piece.
Fold in the seam allowance. Pin into place and sew.
To make the strap, cut a strip of felt long enough to go through your fist (with some allowance). I used the part of the fabric in the red ovals.
Fold the excess…
…and whipstitch around. Put a lobster clip at one end and once you have sewn all around, your Hermione wristlet is done!
